Ministries of Congregational Care

In the midst of difficult times, it helps to have someone to care, to listen and to share God's love. The Caring Ministries of First Methodist Plano help strengthen your ability to manage stress, uncertainty or loneliness and to experience God's grace, hope and peace. to learn more about any of these opportunities, please contact Rev. Alice Coder at acoder@firstmethodistplano.org.

Care Callers

These trained volunteers provide telephone care to persons who have been hospitalized, suffered a significant loss in their lives, or have an ongoing health concern. Care Ministers respect the confidentiality of the persons receiving care and are a vital extension of the pastoral care ministries of our church.

Christian Caregiving - A Way of Life

All of us care about other people. At times you may find that others seek you out to talk about difficulties and challenges in their lives. The study of this book by Dr. Kenneth Haugk will explore the unique role of our Christian faith in our relationships with others, especially those who are hurting or just need a little good friend who'll listen. You’ll learn how to care for the whole person while also setting good boundaries so as not to get over-involved. You’ll learn how to use prayer and the Bible to expand your own and others’ understanding of the love and grace that Jesus offers to all people. Stephen Leaders Karen Rivera and Jerry Beachum will lead this 6-week study.  $12

Mondays, September 21-October 26 from 7-8:30 in room 215.

For childcare reservations please contact Allison Welch at awelch@firstmethodistplano.org or 972-423-4506 at least 24 hours in advance.

Health Ministry

This ministry is constantly developing ways to care for the congregation and community through health education, health screening, blood drives, vaccinations, nutritional and exercise programs, and more.

Commit to Be Fit

This group is designed to help you get to and maintain a healthy weight.  We do an hour long group meeting each week to discuss our hearts and minds.  We use the Bible and other sources to help us.  We discuss our issues openly and are dedicated to changing the way we look at life, health, food, exercise and ourselves.  We also offer group exercise directly following the meeting.  If you are sick and tired of being overweight and you ready to seriously commit yourself to health for God and for you, we want you to join us!
