A.P.P.L.E.S.

(Adventurous Parents Providing Love, Encouragement and Support) This program provides emotional and spiritual support for parents of preschoolers. This is accomplished through monthly meetings and play dates. In addition, we provide casserole deliveries to new families.  For more information contact Becky Smith.

 

Adult Education

Provides resources for adults, as they seek to grow in faith, by offering Bible studies and other experiences designed to strengthen and enrich faith and understanding. Care Ministry

Care Ministers receive training to provide telephone care to persons who have been hospitalized, suffered a significant loss in their lives, or have an ongoing health concern. Care Ministers respect the confidentiality of the persons receiving care and are a vital extension of the pastoral care ministries of our church.  For more information contact Alice Coder Assoc. Children Ministries

Encompasses many areas at First United Methodist Church from infants through fifth grade. We provide an excellent Sunday school program, nurturing nursery and childcare, and an exciting music program. Yearly activities include Vacation Bible School, Kids Music Kamp, and Birthday Party for Jesus, Easter Egg Hunt, and a Blessing of the Pets.  For more information contact Jennifer Tonn, Minister with Children at jtonn@firstmethodistplano.org .

Chrysalis

Youth and young adult version of The Walk to Emmaus. It offers spiritual renewal to young people through a three-day experience and follow-up. "Chrysalis" is the name chosen for the youth and young adult version of The Walk to Emmaus because it symbolizes the spiritual growth that is essential between adolescence and adulthood.  For more information contact Holly Bandel, Associate Pastor at hbandel@firstmethodistplano.org.

Church Office Volunteer

Individuals serve by helping with mailers, answering telephones, entering information into the church database, running copies, running the folding machine, and serving as an information source to individuals or groups who call or come into the church office.  For more information contact Cathy Martin, Administrative Staff at cmartin@firstmethodistplano.org.

 

College Ministry

This program is for college students who meet on Sunday mornings at 9:45. Monthly activities are scheduled during the summer.  For more information contact Grant Wilson Minister with Students at gwilson@firstmethodistplano.org.

 

Communications

Provides effective strategies and creative solutions to help the FUMC/Plano ministries and organizations in communicating to the congregation and community. Communication gives information on opportunities for study, service, fellowship, and assistance. It keeps us connected to the Body of Christ and sharing his love. Dinners for 8

Do you want to meet interesting people? Make new friends? Enjoy an occasional new recipe? If so, then Dinners for 8 is the perfect way to enlarge our circle of friends at FUMC Plano. Groups of four couples meet during a 4-5 month period, rotating dinners in each others' homes. The menus will vary but the two constants are: excellent company and good times. As we grow larger, what better way to feel smaller than with Dinners for 8.  For more information contact Wendy & Bill Hundley or Sharyn Larson.

 

Extending the Table Home Communion Ministry

This ministry provides communion at home to those who are unable to attend worship. A trained volunteer visits and serves communion on the first Sunday of the month.  For more information contact Alice Coder, Assoc. Pastor for Congregational Life at acoder@firstmethodistplano.org.

 

Fellowship Team

Parties, group outings, concerts, special speakers - They have one thing in common - the opportunity to come together to build new friendships, strengthen our church family and grow in our faith. The Fellowship group plans, publicizes and hosts many of the events that reach more people and make FUMC feel smaller. We have coordinated several events such as the Tim Hawkins Concert, Cinco de Mayo party, and the recent Block Party. Golf Tournament

Approximately 10 volunteers donate an estimated 200 hours of their time to pull off the Golf Tournament each year. This great event raises funds benefiting local charities. Last year, over $8,000 was raised which directly benefited Journey of Hope, God's Food Pantry, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Collin County, Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County, Samaritan Inn, Assistance Center of Collin County and C.I.T.Y. Health Ministry

This ministry is constantly developing ways to care for the congregation and community through health education, health screening, blood drives, vaccinations, nutritional and exercise programs, etc.  For more information contact Health Ministry at health@firstmethodistplano.org.

 

Hispanic Ministry

A ministry to the Spanish-speaking community of Plano has been ongoing for several years. A congregation from the U.S., Mexico, Central and South America is worshiping weekly. There is need and great opportunity for ministry, mission, and witness. Worship and church school: 11:00 Sunday school for all ages, followed by a worship service at 12:00. Holy Communion is the first Sunday of the month. Potluck dinner is the last Sunday of the month.  For more information contact David Gonzalez, Associate Pastor for Hispanic Ministry.

Information Technology Task Force

Kairos Outside

A Christian-based, 3-day weekend for women who have a loved one in prison. This is done by providing a safe environment with Christian people and the opportunity to interact with women in similar situations. Women of the incarcerated are "doing time" right along with their loved ones. Team members must be 18 years of age and completed a 3-day weekend like The Walk to Emmaus.  For more information contact Mary Alice Garza.

Lay Speaking

Leading, Caring, and Communicating: these words characterize what The United Methodist Church's Lay Speaking Ministries program is all about. Lay speakers are committed people who spend time and energy preparing themselves for ministry and service to others. They are dedicated to and involved in vital ministry programs of the church.  For more information contact Larry Rogers.

Library

Provides books and materials that will help the congregation grow in their Christian faith and to develop and maintain a collection of educational, devotional, inspirational, recreational and reference materials for all ages. Book donations are welcomed.  For more information contact Lynn Day.

Mature Adults

This ministry is for senior adults who want to have fellowship and fun. It is open to all who feel young at heart. There are special activities from time to time. Monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Trips are also planned.  For more information contact Dale Swain, Minister with Mature Adults at dswain@firstmethodistplano.org.

Music

Praising God and sharing Christ's message of love through music. To equip people to share their gifts and talents, and to reach out to those in need in the community. Choral groups for adults, youth (grades 6-12) and children (age 4 through grade 5). Vocal ensembles in a variety of styles. Instrumental groups - handbells for adults (beginner or advance). Nursery

Nursery care is available for children age four and younger during all services of worship. During the week, care is also provided for infants through 5th grade for other church functions. Prayer Ministry

The concerns of our congregation, community and world are kept in prayer by the 11th Hour Prayer Team at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday in the Chapel, by our Prayer Partners who covenant to pray for each person on the list at least once a week at home, and by other members of the congregation. Scouts

Boy Scout Troop #291 meets at our church every Monday evening from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. Outings are scheduled monthly. They have gone backpacking, canoeing, camping, rock climbing, visited militaries bases, etc. Cub Scout packs also meet at our church.  For more information contact Alan England.

Single Adults

Supports and encourages all members of the body of Christ while also addressing the special needs of the single person in our society. Members represent a wide variety of ages and life-experiences, including divorced, widowed, and unmarried singles. Single Young Adults

Sound & Media

Operation of sound and media facilities to support church activities and functions. Provide system support including setup, operation and maintenance of various church systems.  For more information contact Dave Roberson, Church Administrator at droberson@firstmethodistplano.org.

Sports for Adults

Currently, there are established softball, basketball and two volleyball teams. Golf, bowling and soccer teams will be formed in the very near future. Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of training to serve as a Christian friend to those experiencing stressful life situations in a one-to-one, confidential relationship until the situation abates or is resolved.  For more information contact Alice Coder, Assoc Pastor for Congregational Life at acoder@firstmethodistplano.org.

United Methodist Men (UMM)

UMM is an organization of men who serve Christ and our church through Christian fellowship. This is done through monthly meetings (3rd Saturday) and various projects throughout the year. We host a pancake breakfast each year before the start of the Plano Christmas Parade. One half of the funds raised go to Plano's food pantries. We host the annual Sweetheart Banquet and raise funds by managing parking during Plano's Balloon Festival.  For more information contact Ed Nalley, President.

 

United Methodist Women (UMW)

The purpose of UMW is to bring women together in fellowship. The unit is organized for mission by participating in the organization through prayer, study and action. This is done through small groups (Circles) that meet monthly in the daytime and at night. Walk to Emmaus Spiritual Weekends

The Walk to Emmaus is a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. The weekend is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and daily celebration of Holy Communion. A weekend begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening. Weekday Program

Provides a safe and nurturing environment promoting the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development of children ages 6 months to 12 years, or 5th grade. There are two year-around programs. They are the Preschool and Parent's Day Out for children 6 months through pre-kindergarten. Welcoming Ministry

Welcome visitors and new members to the congregation. Consider getting involved in this exciting and important ministry. Become a Greeter, Mugger (deliver coffee mugs), or a New Member Connector.

Worship

Prepares the communion elements each month and prepares the sanctuary for worship. Serves communion, reads scripture, coordinates acolytes, and other functions associated with liturgical calendar. Scripture Reading Training in near future.  For more information contact Lynette Little.

 

Yardbirds

Youth Ministry

This action-packed ministry is for youth in grades 6 through 12. The goal of our program is to reach the youth of Plano and surrounding communities with the love and peace of Christ. How do we do this?
